19: Stuff! at Jimmy John’s!

Subs #1-6 + BLT were selling for $1 at Jimmy John’s today from 11-3. Delicious stuff.

18: Stuff! on a poster!

Found this poster at school.

17: Stuff about a Photograph.

The photograph above is my dad. Taken with the Seagull camera using ISO400 film. I really like this picture. It was posted on my social network page and my flickr page a while back, but one piece of information about the photo was not mentioned and is now being disclosed here. When I showed my dad, he said he really liked it; in fact, it’ll look great in his obituary.

I try to forget how old my dad is, but the effects of age have greatly impacted him in the past couple years. Basically, there is a lot of stuff he used to be able to do that he cannot do anymore. His back has been giving him problems for years now; he always tells me about it and I feel helpless because I can’t fully relieve his pain. He worries that he’ll turn into an old, grumpy, crotchety man who constantly complains about aches and pains. I don’t think he’s grumpy, at all; really, I think he has a very good temperament for an octogenarian. He doesn’t have any terminal illnesses and has boldly exclaimed plenty about living for another ten or twenty years. Although that may seem like a while, I know his time is running out. The thought depresses me if I dwell on it for too long. Some day I will have to confront that thought when it becomes reality, but not now. Not today. Not just yet.

Going to watch cartoons or something that will help me go to sleep. Lots of stuff happening tomorrow.

16: You’re Looking at Stuff! about Pandas

Got my vlog entry up for this month. Not doing these as often as I’d like, but I’m glad I’m at least doing one a month. With the semester ending soon, I should be able to make these on a regular basis.

15: Stuff! on more home cookin’

Last week I attempted to cook again. This time I went out on a limb and did stuff I had never done before:

1. Cook beef in a form other than hamburger meat.
2. Make cheesecake.

I definitely learned some stuff from this cooking experience. I learned that cooking beef without knowing what kind of spices I’m going to use is not advisable. I really didn’t think about what I was going to use to add flavor; grabbing random sample packets is not a wise idea. Thankfully the spices I chose and the amount that I used did not ruin the beef because it still tasted fine when finished.

The cheesecake was made from a box and not from scratch, but as my first time ever preparing cheesecake, I think I was quite successful. I’d like to try making homemade cheesecake or just add my own fruit instead of the jelly liquid concoction that was included in the package. Gallery below shows beef with green beans and sweet Texas onion and strawberry cheesecake.

14: Stuff! on St. Patrick’s Day

Last Thursday was the first time I got to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as an adult: with alcohol! A group of friends and I went to the Red Baron and spent the evening drinking beer, conversing, and singing karaoke. I recorded some footage of the event before the battery in my camcorder died, which was my fault because I left it on at one point and didn’t realize it was on. The night got interesting immediately as we engaged in a drinking game that involved us taking gulps of beer whenever any of us performed some sort of habitual act. The habitual acts included Rachel being crazy, Nathan talking about music, Britt pouting, Cody lying, Lindsay picking her lip, Emily saying the phrase “Holy night,” and my being cute. Although Rachel did not go crazy, there was plenty of lip picking, sacred exclamations, falsifications, sulky lips, musical references, and adorable moments. The video below provides a bit of how the night went. I’ve recently started using a new video-editing program and the learning curve is a bit steep so the video may not be that great. Hopefully I will get better with practice.

13: Stuff! about home cookin’.

Last Friday, I decided to refrain from eating fast food for one meal and attempted to fix something in the kitchen. I prepared everything except for the sugar snap peas (found a frozen bag and added them last minute). It wasn’t anything extraordinary; the chicken was a little dry and the mashed potatoes were simple. Still, I’m pleased with myself and with knowing that I can prepare an actual meal if I actually tried.

Also, I celebrated Pi Day today by devouring a slice of store-bought blueberry pie. Until I find a way to eat numbers, I will continue celebrating this mathematical holiday each year with a slice of bakery goodness. Hooray for homophones!

12: Stuff! about Snuggie look-alikes.

Been over a month since I’ve posted any stuff on here. I’ve been busy with so much stuff that I stopped making time to share that stuff on here. Well, things are different now and I promise I won’t leave for so long ever again. Really. Well, the likelihood of that happening again is slim. Very, very slim. Anyway, I guess I’ll start talking about stuff.

Look-alikes of popular products rarely appear better than the originals. Sometimes they are worse than the original products. Unless a person is only interested in saving money, he won’t mind shelling out some extra bucks to buy from the original manufacturer instead of some third-party knock-off. Well, while meandering at a local mall, I found some look-alike stuff that looked better than the original stuff. The original stuff that I am referring to is the Snuggie. Now, I don’t really know if the Snuggie is the first blanket with sleeves to ever be sold. I wouldn’t be surprised if other people tried selling a similar product before and failed because they didn’t use a catchy name like “Snuggie.” However, since it was advertised on television, I’m going to declare it as the original for sake of this post. Anyway, on my excursion, I discovered similar blankets with sleeves, as seen below.

Now those look more interesting to me. Sure the Snuggie looks nice in its generic colors. Heck, I’m sure some guys go bananas over the camouflage patterned Snuggie. But why get one of those plain jane Snuggies when you can get a sleeved blanket that better describes you? Instead of getting a simple blue sleeved blanket, get one that yells “Go Blue!” Raise your nerd ego with a sleeved blanket that shows off your favorite video game! I don’t own one personally, but I have friends who do and have told me their complaints about their Snuggies. So if you’re going to burn some bills on thin fabric that’s a pain in the neck to wash, I suggest burning it on thin fabric that’s a pain in the neck to wash but represents something you enjoy.

11: Stuff! on university computers.

Last week I tried to log into a computer at school and it wouldn’t allow me, displaying its reason in the image below. It wasn’t a big deal because plenty of other computers in the computer lab were open, but it just seemed odd.

The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed.

Did the computer cheat on the primary domain with by engaging in some electrical circuitry with some other domain? Did it betray the primary domain’s confidence? Did it pull a Benedict Arnold and attempt to serve another domain? None of those reasons make any sense, but neither does the message that it gave me for not being able to log in. I would’ve taken a print screen, but I couldn’t log in so I took a picture with my phone (hence the poor image quality).

10. Stuff! on Contact Sheets, Snow Days, and the Machine Shop

Remember a while back when I said I had some film to develop for a class? Well, we finally got the contact proof sheets done on Monday and I just scanned them today to post online. Obviously not all of the pictures look great; some of the subject matter doesn’t look as interesting as I imagined and the photos of my brother next to the window were overexposed. Also, the first couple frames in the first contact sheet suffered from light leak, though my professor thought that the light leak in the first frame looked cool so I guess it kind of worked in my favor. Aside from that, I like the portraits I took of my dad and I plan to make a larger print of one of them in class. Contact sheets from the Seagull camera can be viewed at the end of this post.

This week I had two snow days (Wednesday and Thursday) so I can say that I’ve been enjoying my extended weekend for the most part. I started moving into my sister’s old bedroom last week and I spent some more time cleaning and organizing. There’s just so much stuff to deal with that I don’t know what to do with it all!

Tonight I’m going to the Machine Shop for the Indi-Grace Metal Showcase. It’s a show featuring 6 local metal bands that one of my friends invited me to see. I agreed to go since I’d be going with people I know, but the deal was sweetened when she told me I could bring my camera and possibly get on stage to photograph the bands. I’ve taken pictures at the Machine Shop before, but I may be able to take pictures from perspectives to which I didn’t have access before. Hopefully I will get some decent photos tonight.
